HAIR LOSS MEDICATIONS
If your hair loss is due to male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness, or hair thinning, then one of the most effective hair loss treatments are prescriptive medications. To know more, read below. Please be aware that shampoos and conditioners have not proved to be helpful for hair loss. The first thing that needs to be treated is the cause of the hair loss itself and there are FDA approved drugs that serve this purpose.
Finasteride – The Oral DHT inhibitor
Both male and female pattern balding is caused by hair follicles being receptive to the hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This causes the hair to become thinner and shorter over time. This is the direct result of DHT.
Accordingly, we must reduce the level of DHT to stop further hair loss. The way to treat DHT is with medication that has the active ingredient Finasteride, which partially inhibits the activity of the enzyme 5AR, thereby reducing the production of DHT.
This medicine is prescribed by our doctors and taken orally. The dosage varies depending on your sex, age, exercise regimen and the degree of thinning.
Minoxidil
Minoxidil is available as a liquid, tablet or foam and is taken or applied daily, directly to the areas of the scalp affected. This product has been on the market for 30+ years and has a proven safety record. Oral and Topical Minoxidil is prescribed by our doctors.
It works by increasing blood supply to the skin, stimulating the hair root, which lengthens the growth cycle of the hair follicle.

How is the SMP procedure performed at Evolved Clinics in Gurgaon, Delhi and Lucknow?
Your SMP journey is expected as follows:
Consultation: To start with, our hair treatment doctor will assess your hair loss through a consult and recommend you a customized treatment plan. Your hairline will be simulated to match your desired look. Irrespective of your skin tone, we are able to match the shade of our pigment to perfectly fit your scalp.
Preparation: As you may expect, it’s best to shave your hair as close to your scalp as possible so that your SMP specialist is better able to fill in the problem areas.
First Session: The 1st session will lay the foundation of replicated hair follicles. Post session, you will notice a discernible difference and a full look emerge. SMP typically takes 2-4 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss.
Subsequent Sessions: Most patients can expect 2-3 sessions to complete their SMP treatment depending on the extent of hair loss/ scarring. These hair restoration treatments are usually spaced 14-21 days apart. For these sessions, we add additional layers of density to create the appearance of full, short hair with a natural look.
After care: After your final hair implant, we will provide you with aftercare instructions, which are fairly simple to follow. This includes no direct sun exposure for approximately 3-4 weeks and avoiding chlorinated water (hot tubs/ pools) for around 10 days.
Does this hair transplant procedure hurt? Any side-effects?
For most patients, the pain is minimal and it’s consistently less painful than traditional tattoos. After your session, you won’t experience any further discomfort.
The scalp may be a bit reddish for 2-3 days post session, so we recommend wearing a hat after treatment if you wish to conceal the redness.
Can I still use Finasteride and/or Minoxidil after my treatment?
You can continue using Finasteride during and after your SMP. However, topical Minoxidil should be temporarily suspended during the course of treatment and for 30 days post session. This is to ensure the proper healing and settling of pigment without interference of the chemicals found in Minoxidil foam.
How much will the SMP hair transplant cost?
It really depends on the size of your scalp tattoo, the complexity of your procedure, and the number of follow-up appointments required. To give you an indication:
• A small MPG session can cost around INR 35,000
• A large MPG session can cost around INR 100,000.
How long do the results last?
After completion of your hair restoration treatment (2-3 sessions), you should expect the strength of the colour to last for many years. Over a longer term, you will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (not discolour) of the treatment. When this occurs, you can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of your style.
Can I still get a hair transplant surgery done?
Hair transplant surgery can be performed prior to this technique but also after the technique if further hairs are required or desired. Because we are trained hair transplant surgeons, SMP can be offered as part of a range of therapies to manage any future hair loss.
